02 May 2015 | Who Cares What's Wrong with Kansas?

I may be a horrible person for writing this, but I really have no sympathy for the people of Kansas anymore.

Now just imagine if I was actually the person who was making these things happen: Governor Sam Brownback. You should come after me with full fury for helping to ruin education in Kansas. But instead, he got re-elected. So there's very little by way of sympathy for a state that continues to believe that trickle-down economics actually works when we've got over 30 years of data showing it does not.

But rather than acknowledging that this tax “experiment,” as it’s been white-washed, has failed and needs to be reversed, Brownback and Republican legislators have mostly doubled down. To make up for the shortfalls, the state has hacked away at core services, from roads to welfare.

It's not just a question of kids getting out early: now you have teachers who will have to find a way to supplement the sudden loss of two weeks worth of income. Parents will now have to figure out what to do with their kids for those two extra weeks. There's your trickle down, right there. But do people seem to put 2 and 2 together? Nope: they keep electing the same assholes cycle after cycle.

Have fun, Kansas.
