A Quick Note about Impeachment

There are too many Americans who are insisting that if Democrats control either or both chambers of Congress, impeachment must be on the table. Why?

Here’s the kicker: while impeachment can be whatever Congress says it is, if your goal is to convict and remove, well, that’s not going to happen. Given two opportunities to rid themselves, Republicans have steadfastly refused to do anything, save for the one or two who were given permission to vote to convict. So unless there are 67 Senators after this election, the impeachment process is completely useless.

Impeachment no longer has a stigma, and like about everything else, has no meaning. A third impeachment is just a chaser for an actual convicted criminal for whom there will never be a true accounting. Sticking to the norms of dealing with a out-of-control executive branch is part of the reason everything fails: nothing matters anymore.
