As usual, right after the 2024 presidential election, The Onion summed it up best: “America defeats America.”

It would have been the opportunity of a lifetime: electoral banishment, once and for all, for the most malignant figure in American political history, and also its greatest criminal. A man whose contempt for the US Constitution is unheralded in the annals of this country. Instead, just about 1.5 percent of the voters decided that they wanted more. They decided that a convicted felon and adjudicated rapist was the person they wanted to lead the country and make their lives better.

Funny thing: you never hear anything about inflation anymore, do you? The nation’s Media Glitterati have all but dropped that issue. And you never hear anything about people telling you that the economy is the worst ever, itself a lie. News outlets have completely shut up about that. Belatedly, you see a story or two about how President Biden is leaving the best economy that America has ever had, but almost like a side note. They are ready to wax rhapsodic about it after January 20, to give the incoming Felon Administration credit where none is due. It’s an easy prediction, but still, look for it. They will push this lie and people will believe it. The poison of the press has another dose waiting for a gullible public.

America defeats America.

In the Canadian television show “Trailer Park Boys,” a perpetually drunk character named Jim Lahey tries to convince another character about the existence of a “shit barometer” that is providing signs via the “whispering winds of shit” that itself, portends a “shit blizzard.” (He’s an interesting prophet, that’s for sure.) Along with The Onion, one cannot summon up a better metaphor for what this foul criminal is going to bring. A veritable clown car of incompetent morons who will assume positions of power and wreak all kinds of havoc. But in some ways, how much damage can you do to a corpse? America as it was, is a shadow of its former self, still imperiously breathing threats to its enemies, but now a political cadaver, picked over by imbecilic vultures who want to strip what is left. And the institutions? Well, they were ineffective last time and they’re all but moribund now, due to a 1.5 percent electoral edge.

America defeats America.

There is no small part of me that feels vindictive and wants to see the collapse. I want to see all those red states wonder why they are not richer, why their work force has collapsed because of deportations, and why federal programs they think show up magically on their own have evaporated. It will not be obvious or immediate, but rather in that actual sense of the word “apocalypse,” an unveiling. I also have no doubt they will learn nothing and blame everyone else. Because that’s the American way.

So, the whispering winds of shit have been warning us and the shit barometer is promising a shit blizzard. Perhaps one for the ages.
