20 November 2014 | Immigration Apocalypse!

Well, it's quite interesting to see how our Media Glitterati have framed the upcoming executive action by President Obama regarding immigration: it's on now!

That's the anticipated response from the right-wing, who've caught impeachment fever and want to shut down the government and anything else they can think of as an act of revenge. Note what's missing: a coherent response about immigration policy or even about the bill that House Speaker John Boehner did nothing with after it was passed by the Senate a year ago.

But those are facts, you see, and our hapless media fucks want bloodsport. So do the right wingers, who among other complaints, will bitch high and loud that the president is nakedly pandering for future votes. It seems they're just pissed they didn't think of it first. And the reason for that is because they spent too much time whipping their constituents into a bloodlust of vindictiveness when it comes to dealing with illegal immigrants: deport them all.

Look, you can preach "the president should follow the law!" all day long, but there's no way 5-6 million people are going to be deported. Period. Even the GOP leaders know this but they've preferred to let the executive get all the blame for it. There are two sad parts to this: an electorate that is frothing at the mouth with an all or nothing scenario, and a compliant media that refuses to even broach the subject with said GOP leaders. On those rare occasions when a reporter actually does press a question, that person often won't push back and demand an answer that doesn't involve the Washington Two Step. Witness "Here and Now" host Jeremy Hobson, while interviewing Scott Getzschman, mayor of Fremont, Nebraska: Mr. Hobson didn't bother to press the man about what "sealing the borders" has to do anything with people already here. Especially when Fremont is a town that is not a border state and has a small number of illegal immigrants and its only claim to fame is demanding renters prove citizenship. Mr. Hobson just left it at that.

We always expect that journalists will challenge what they know is patently false from right-wingers in Congress and elsewhere, but they never seem to make that logical step anymore. It would be thing for someone to ask, what effect does shielding illegal immigrants from deportation have on lower-paying jobs that citizens have? (Because business loves cheap labor, you understand, and have no problem throwing employees under the bus if they can get a cheaper worker). It's a completely legitimate inquiry, but that's not being asked. It's just the opportunity to let someone spout a talking point that will have no bearing on anything and it's left at that.

Way to go, media fucks. Way to go.
